Michael W. Hailey, MD

Michael W. Hailey, MD was born in small town Mississippi graduating from the Mississippi School for Math and Science located in Columbus, MS in 1990. He attended and graduated from Delta State University in 1994, where he received the coveted First Diploma. He matriculated in Tulane Medical School and graduated in 1998. After completing his General Surgery Residency in Birmingham, AL at Carraway Methodist Medical Center – he returned to Baton Rouge. In 2005, he founded Breast Specialty of Baton Rouge to call attention to cancer and diseases of the breast. He has remained dedicated to those afflicted with breast issues. For many years, he has offered free screening exams on a monthly basis through his association with Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center’s Care Network. Over this time, he has helped diagnose breast cancers in this underserved population and assisted them in obtaining efficient treatment. He gives several community and physician based lectures yearly.

Dr. Hailey believes in true Multi-Disciplinary Care for each breast cancer patient. This care begins at the time of a breast cancer diagnosis and is carried through and beyond treatment. Dr. Hailey is constantly working with the Radiologists, Pathologists, Medical and Radiation Oncologists, Plastic Surgeons, Genetic Specialist, etc. to ensure state-of-the-art care for his patients. His efforts with the Cancer Navigator have led to improved support after a diagnosis and through survivorship. His commitment to those with post-surgical lymphedema has improved the day-to-day experience for these patients. Currently, he is working with local professionals to offer better education and care for all patients. He believes that he should be an advocate for all patients and desires to ensure that each has individualized care for their unique situation. Through his involvement with Woman’s Hospital, he was instrumental in Woman’s Hospital achieving Accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers.

 

Dr. Hailey attends and presents multiple patients at the Woman’s Hospital Breast Cancer Conference, which is attended by numerous local medical professionals. This Multi-Disciplinary Conference ensures that Dr. Hailey’s patients are receiving the best, evidence-based care through these in-depth discussions. The recommendations made at this Conference are discussed with his patients at follow-up so that they have all the information to make appropriate treatment decisions.

Dr. Hailey works tirelessly to provide his patients with efficient breast care and takes the time necessary to ensure that each person has the answers they need concerning their breast issues. He offers follow-up with any new findings and can often see new patients (and those with new problems) within 24 hours. He is dedicated to ensuring that your regular physicians stay informed as to any recommendations.
